Fluxus Movement

Fluxus screams wearability, mobility, movement and style.  It’s your inner-city art movement.  It’s the beat generation in jersey.  Fluxus incorporates “simple but tactile materials such as jersey cotton, tri-blend and the signature hand of the burnout in avant-garde shapes and cuts for men and women.”  The look has an instant bohemian urbanite edge, putting a modern spin on age old ideals - blurring the line between artistic genres.

Manhattanite carries a large selection of Fluxus goods and in the event that your wallet is looking a little lighter than usual, there’s a whole boatload of pieces marked down.  Here are some of the gorgeous goods I’ve got my eye on:

Wear the Fluxus Button Corset over the Graphic Burnout Pocket Tank for an edgy artist look.  Pair it with skinny jeans and giant boots for added effect.

Alternately try the Fluxus Peep Hole Dress for a night out.  Top it with the Fluxus Ruffle Scarf to sweeten the deal.

Slouchy boots and a beret make this beatnick-bombshell look complete.

If you’re still feeling winter wherever you are, one of these sweaters is sure to put a little spring in your step.

Either look can be paired with longer gloves (bonus points if they’re fingerless for freedom of movement) for a quick fix to those still-chilly mornings.  They’d both look amazing with leggings, or dark skinny denim.

You can tell, I’m totally smitten with these designs - the look is perfect for the rainy Northwest, your bohemian lifestyle, urban uprising, and any art genre.

Get Ready for Resort

Resort season is approximately November-January, and usually when the weather is beyond frigid on the East Coast, my mind starts to wonder to warmer locales and wardrobe items. This year, I will be vacationing in the Bahamas during resort season, and was thinking what to wear on the way to the airport and on the plane, while I’m on vacay, and then something comfy to sport on the way back. Here are my top picks that are practical, versatile, easily fit in a suitcase, and of course, chic!

In Fluxus

I hadn’t heard of Fluxus Clothing until perusing the Manhattanite shop, but I became instantly smitten when I saw their new pieces. All I could think of was how yummy and comfortable the pieces look, in great colors, basic shapes (but with a hint of something extra special) and at such affordable prices…

I love the extra little flips of ruffles on pieces and the UV (purple) color drives me simply crazy. It’s so vibrant, while not being too vibrant or over the top…

saturdaymorning

Saturday Morning Farmer’s Market. With my (now) imaginary golden retriever in one hand, a warm coffee in the other, running errands, picking up fresh & local produce. Casual, comfortable, but still stylish.

saturdaynight

Saturday night, drinks & dancing with the girls. I love that the Fluxus dress is so casual, but can be dressed up easily with lots of accessories and bold colors. The shape is so simple, you could really adorn it and dress it in so many ways…

Ashe Mischief Covets: ruffle tee; hobo cardigan; nomad scarf; rib vest; ruffle turtleneck; Shirley dress.

Rockin’ Ruffles

Because ruffles don’t have to be all girly and sweet …

When people describe me, ’sweet’ isn’t typically one of the words that falls out of their mouths. Not that I’m mean (okay, I am lying a little bit) but I’m definitely not sweet.  However, just because I’m not sweet doesn’t mean I don’t like wearing clothing that falls under that sweet category. The key for me is finding pieces that are sweet and innocent but that also have an edge. Lucky for me I was able to find some pieces like that here.

Check out these bad boys. They all have ruffles and they all have a great edge to them. My personal favorite is the gray ruffle tee by Fluxus. Fluxus is fast becoming a favorite brand of mine because the clothes are comfortable and stylish. I am also crushing on the black tent top on the bottom right. It has a nice vintage spin to it and I can wear it on fat days :P

What’s your favorite?
