Rebel’s New Favorite Label: Cecilia De Bucourt

Cecilia De Bucourt’s current collection is seriously a dream come true for the rebel in me. Forget tough punky accents, her designs lean more towards being subtley sexy while keeping your inner rock chick intact (if that’s what you are). The pieces above have a certain nonchalance about them yet remain clean looking enough for you to experiment and mix with different styles too.

Personally, I think her pieces should be counter-acted with some lazy looking denim pieces, a cool looking hoodie or even a smart looking blazer for work.  Sexy heeled pumps gives off a more sultry look or else try motorcycle boots if you are more tomboy than temptress. They can also look even more interesting paired with sheer pieces or with simple non-metallic jewellery. One of my favourite things to pair them with however, would be one of these Fluxus Burnout shirts.

This is more for the rock and roll chick who wants to feel a bit sexier and more feminine. I highly suspect that some part of my next paycheck is going to go to either that chained vest or the one-shouldered faded grey top. This is one label that I will definitely be watching out for.

How to Wear the New Denim Short

I’ll admit the last time I wore denim shorts, I was 12 and I currently don’t even own a pair.  But denim shorts (and shorts in general) went from tween to decidely grown up when paired correctly. Instead of just throwing on any old top, try one of the biggest trends of the summer (again) - the nautical striped tee with a white or khaki boyfriend blazer over it for instant chic. For day, pair with flat T-sandals and sex it up with heels for going out.  I would keep the accessories light as not to clash with the  stripes.  To keep it classy, I opt for cuffed shorts as opposed to cut-offs in a style that is slightly looser, longer and in a darker wash. Siwy Ruby Roll Up Shorts in Twilight is my top pick.

An Introduction to Cordelia of Rebel Chic

What would you do if you felt like you didn’t fit in with the crowd, a certain sub-culture or even with the current fashion trends? I see many people I know conforming to the norm blindly, but luckily for me, I’ve always been a rebel which gives me some kind of immunity from caring about what most people think.

Through my personal style, I have found the skin that I am happy to be in and everyday I feel as though I am discovering more about myself through what I like in fashion.

A metallic silver jacket, black leather flat boots and a grey dress are what I consider my style essentials. I am always on the lookout for these three things no matter what the fashion trends are and I feel very strongly that these items are a huge part of me.

When I first started blogging, I was living in cold and wet Britain, but these days I live back home in Singapore where it is hot and humid (but still wet!) instead. Therefore, the things I see myself picking up when I am shopping in stores seem to put me in the direction of a more laid-back version of my covered-up style back in the UK.

Speaking of laid-back style, I am favouring some carelessly cool pieces on Manhattanite which will easily fit in with my style essentials. The way I see it is that I will make things, in this case fashion fit in with me and not the other way round!

My Manhattanite Picks:

1. David Lerner Organic Cap Sleeve Pocket Tee

I can never have enough grey shirts that hide what I don’t want others to see and show off what I want others to notice. I love the super short sleeves on this one.

2. Siwy Camilla Cut-Off Shorts in Charm

I had my eye on these for awhile now. I just love the light, barely there baby blue wash. It is just asking for the rebel in me to team it with something tough and dark.

3. Lauren Moshi Sword Heart Grommet Hoodie in Black

Grommets are on my mind a lot at the moment. This is definitely the most sensual hoodie ever with your décolletage on show. I think my little grey dress agrees with it too!

4. CC Skye Woven Leather & Chain Bangle

I like my jewelry to enhance the clothes I already have and this is just one of those versatile pieces that go with everything.

Crush of the Moment: Siwy Jeans

Monday, June 22nd, 2009
Authored by: Lauren Messiah

I haven’t had a denim crush in a really long time. In fact, I have been able to keep myself away from my premium denim habit for, like, a really long time. The last pair of way too expensive jeans I bought was a pair of True Religions, last summer and come to think of it, those were a gift. Anyways, back to the subject at hand … Siwy jeans.

siwy1Siwy jeans have a sort of heat radiating off of them. They are like the Meghan Fox of jeans. They are vaguely familiar, ridiculously hot, kinda unattainable (not really, just buy them on Manhattanite), and they make you feel really good.

There is a nice selection out there but I have my eye on the Siwy Camilla Shorts in Libertine w/ Rainbow Jewels. What can I say; I am sucker for short-shorts and jewels. I also have my eye steady on the Siwy Sophie Slim Crop Pant in Jet and Onyx Mesh. Why? I don’t know, maybe because I don’t have enough garments with mesh in them.

Find your favorite on Manhattanite now and tell me why you love them … I just like to know these things.

An Introduction to Crosby of PR Couture

Authored by: Crosby

Hello lovelies! My name is Crosby and I am the founder of PR Couture, a little ditty of a blog that focuses on the fashion PR niche. As a more trade blog, I am thrilled to be fashion blogging for Manhattanite and diving into the clothes (and not just the PR behind the clothes!).

I am a collector - postcards, fortunes, fabric, photographs, unicorns, black flats - and I love putting these images around my house, stuffed into books to be found later, incorporated into gifts or art. I tend to be drawn toward the the pretty, romantic, sometimes cynical and a bit dark. It’s no surprise then, with the early summer upon us, and June Gloom descended upon San Diego, that I sought out the Sofia Coppola film Virgin Suicides for fashion inspiration.

I know we are all being fed 90’s grunge-land, but for summer I love the idea of 1970’s style white dresses, hints of pink and a flower or two. After taking a look at a few delicious shots of Ms. Dunst, I couldn’t resist the Va Va by Joy Han Daisy Dress in White. Perhaps the clothes themselves are so pure to create contrast and intrigue when we figure out just how complex the girl is who wears them?

Authored by: Lauren Messiah

Allow me to reintroduce myself … my name is HOV! No, just kidding. I have had Jay Z songs stuck in my head all day, please forgive me.

My name is actually Lauren Messiah, but most of you probably know me as FashionKitty. You may have visited my blog, AskFashionKitty where I have been dishing out fashion advice since 2004. Or perhaps you have seen me on the blog formerly known as StyleDash, trash talking celebrities bad fashion choices. Or maybe you’ve seen one of my thousands of fashion recommendations on ThisNext.

FashionKitty and a few of her favorite things!

FashionKitty and a few of her favorite things!

What I am trying to say is, I get around — The web that is, sharing my fashion knowledge with anyone who will listen. In an attempt to spread more fashion joy, I am here blogging for Manhattanite.

I am not even one blog post in and I am already finding that the hardest part about blogging for an online boutique is wanting everything! With that being said, let’s wrap this fist post up with a few of my favorite things.

  • CC Skye Medium Skye Bag in Black- This bag falls into my ‘tough-girl-chic’ fashion genre, which is currently my favorite fashion genre. Its black, its slouchy, its perfect.
  • Taco Costume- I don’t have a dog (yet) but I want a dog (really bad) and no, it’s not just because this taco costume is so cute. I do, however, encourage all dog owners to consider putting their pooch in this costume.

Since this is the first post, we want to take this opportunity to share a little background on Manhattanite and the owner, Jeanette Silvestri.

  • Jeanette’s always had a passion, or should we say obsession, for shopping and style. In launching Manhattanite, she wanted to create a one-stop shopping destination for women’s apparel, accessories and other must-haves.
  • Manhattanite caters to a variety of customers including teens, twenty-something trendsetters, executives and stay-at-home moms, among others. To help guide shopping experiences for different lifestyles and personalities, we added a “Shop by Lifestyle” section (makes gift giving a breeze).
  • Fun facts about Jeanette: She’s obsessed with Siwy jeans and Fluxus tees (own every style/color). For her, it feels like Christmas every time new shipments arrive.
  • Click here to read more about the shop!
