Tray 6 Keeps You Stylish in the Rain

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009
Authored by: FreshJess

Although I’m pretty sure there are other places in the world that see more rain than Seattle, we do get our fair share of rainy days. Many locals like to say that a true Seattleite doesn’t walk around with an umbrella - but I’m not one of them. I am not a fan of showing up everywhere dripping wet!

Enter Tray 6’s array of beautiful umbrellas. Not only do they come in a variety of fun colors and fab designs, but they can hold their own when the elements are at full force. They’re wind-resistant, ergonomically friendly and come with a matching cover sleeve, so they’re easy to stash in your bag once you arrive somewhere cozy & warm. I can’t think of a better accessory to stand out in a sea of basic black umbrellas!

Vita for Fall

Monday, September 28th, 2009
Authored by: The Daily Obsession

vitaAs I was browsing Manhattanite for some season appropriate jewelry, I came across this Vita cuff and instantly added to my shopping cart.

Remember how a few months ago I had blogged about Vita making the perfect bangles for summer?

Well, they’ve done it again!  For fall, I kicked it up a notch going for a more intense cuff rather than carefree bangles. The Vita Chiave Cuff is fashioned from black leather with a 24K gold-plated lock and is a statement piece on it’s own.  This chic item has already been spotted on many celebrities and is sure to be a perennial staple with its slightly edgy twist.  I’ve been obsessed with leather jewelry ever since I discovered them by Hermes and the Vita cuff is a wonderful, affordable alternative without sacrificing any of that classic style.

While the cuff can certainly be paired with most things (all the more striking against a feminine floral dress), I prefer to wear mine with a long grey cardigan and long black leggings.

Tie Dye for Spring 2010?

Cecilia De Bucourt Rock Edge Top in GreyI know it’s a little early to be thinking about Spring fashion,  but I saw a ton of tie dye on the catwalk and it never hurts to buy  something you know you can wear next season too! While Manhattanite has lots of cool options, like jeans, hoodies and dresses, I am super fond of this Cecelia De Bucourt top that somehow managed to mix feminine, tough and boho all at the same time!

Shopping for Those Tiny Tots

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Lets get one thing straight before I begin this post. I am “tot” free. I don’t have a tot and (right now) I don’t want a tot. However, tots (babies, small people, whatever you call them) need style too.  If you are anywhere near my age (upper 20’s) — all of your friends are having babies and all of those babies need gifts.

Luckily there are some really cute products for babies out there (I am not talking diaper Genies, my friends). Believe it or not, buying baby stuff for other people is actually kinda fun. You get to say “awww, how cute” and all that other fun stuff without actually having a baby of your own. Yay!

I took a cruise (after making sure no one was looking) around the baby department on Manhattanite and found some pretty adorable things:

Leather & Lace for Fall 2009

Monday, September 21st, 2009
Authored by: Ashe Mischief

Two trends I’m looking forward to and looking to rock a lot of are leather and lace. I love the complexity of pairing the two together– and the great thing about living in 2009 is decades worth of inspiration, shapes, and silhouettes to pair these two together while still looking fresh and hip (and not just like Courtney Love).

Lauren wrote about the leather jacket as a rocker staple, and I completely agree. The great thing about a leather coat is that it’s a staple for everything and everyone.

KRMA’s Jade Leather Jacket is a favorite of mine– the shape is fitted and playful, and can contrast great again skinny jeans & tank tops, to gorgeous 1940s and 80s inspired dresses.

Or, le swoon–this Mackage Becca Leather Jacket. Holy crap–does this have an amazing shape or what? It playfully mixes a hard shape and soft, femme details to create a stunning piece.

Leather & Lace

And pairing them with lace? I’d love to see some delicate lace leggings or tights paired with either jacket–like these Black Banded Lace Legging by fashion blogger favorite, I Heart Norwegian Wood.  Try pairing a playful and colorful lace turtleneck top or button-up blouse with a sleek pair of pants or high-waisted skirt for a flirty and softer look.

A whole lotta leather for fall

Leather

Confession: I have an old, designer knock-off leather hoodie from Old Navy scored for about $50 on Ebay, probably 4 years ago. The leather isn’t supple, buttery or any of the adjectives that usually get my mouth watering, but it does its duty, the perfect outwear for that summer dress as well as those black skinnies and shimmery top. Even better, it has started to degrade so that the brown flecks show at the elbow, turning it into something uniquely mine.  I have grown to love this jacket, it’s not a piece I worry about spilling a little wine on, or shoving into the bottom of a bag with god knows what lurking in its depths.  Plus, I’ve worn it on some pretty Important Life Events, so it has sentimental value.

However, this homage to “the little knock-off that could” does nothing to satiate my lust for a real lux leather bomber jacket of my own. Upgrading from “does the job” to a really well-made, so soft you want to wear it to bed leather jacket is a dream of mine. Currently,  I have my eye on this gunmetal leather jacket as well as the more traditional black bomber pictured above.

Like the LBD or the trench, the white t-shirt or whatever other fashion staples make it on the quintessential List, I wholeheartedly add leather jacket. It’s a year-round must-have, yet a decidedly appropriate investment for fall. Trust Ms. Amos (and me) on this one, ladies.

Isn’t it fun when you can be sassy without saying a single word? The  Lauren Moshi Lips Pocket V-Neck Dress in Black does just that with its casual cotton and rayon jersey black dress adorned with a prominent set of pouty lips. Style it with some liquid leggings, or solid ones with a twist, like these David Lerner Black Leggings with 7″ Gold Zipper. Throw on some funky, chunky wedges, like the oh…Deer! Valley in Coral and you’ll definitely be striding in ultra chic, cheeky, style.

Ravenous for Ruffles

One trend I simply cannot get over is my love of ruffles.  Maybe it’s the super femme side of me, but they’re sophisticated, sexy, sweet, and sassy– all in one delicate detail.  And because I’m no fool, I always love to try & get great pieces when they’re on sale. It makes them that much more satisfying.

This Amanda Uprichard dress satiates my desires. To play down the girliness, I think it’d be fun with this Lauren Moshi headband.

It baffles me that jewel tones fall in and out of season. They’re flattering on so many skin tones, go great throughout the seasons, and this Fluxus dress falls through all the seasons. (And because I’m SO crazed about Lauren Moshi’s headbands, I’d pair this dress with this lush purple one.) Add in some great Oh Deer! pumps and you’re set for so many occasions.

The Cover Up that Can Go From Water to Land

Sunny summer days are upon us and we are always on the search for the perfect swimsuit, the most comfortable sandals, the hollywood sunglasses and the every occasion dress. Its easy to fall in love with what looks good, that sometimes we forget to look for what we actually need. This is where I come in to help. This past weekend as I was enjoying the summer day in a boat with friends, it seemed as if nothing could go wrong. I had the swimsuit,  the sandals and I thought I had the perfect dress.

Vix Mikinos Bikini Set

It wasn’t until we were docking and discussing our plans for what to do next that I realized I didn’t really think my outfit choice through. We had made plans to go to dinner…we were starving, the kind of starving that had me eating candy by the handful, which I never do.

It wasn’t until I reached for my cover up I realized that it just wouldn’t do. I had packed it because it worked great as a day dress. It did its job, it matched my bathing suit and it was easy to just throw back on.

Did it work to go out to dinner? No way.

The little dress was the latest trend, practically see through, and had a boxy shape to it and not until I was hit with the dilemna, of do I actually have to go to a restaurant dressed like this? Did I realize that rules from land wear to water wear really shouldnt differ.

I didn’t know that I was throwing away years of experience in figuring out what looked best on me simply because I was on water. If you know what look compliments you the best, dont fall into the latest trend.

In my quest to remedy my mistake I found the Vix Solid Cotton Short Dress cover up on the Manhattanite site. It’s more stylish than the average cover up, so no need to pack an extra set of clothes. Just add heel, red lipstick and this could easily go from water to land.. not just any land, but dinner.
