Every time I review a new collection of theirs, I find looks that are new and refreshing. Some popular looks have included graphic tees styled with large hairpieces and funky earrings (a fun look that looks inspired by a Cyndi Lauper video!) The Fall 2013 collection focuses more on giving off a rock & roll vibe. Screen shot 2013-08-23 at 3.02.47 PM

Manhattanites choose SPUN: Organic Cotton Clothing

Monday, March 22nd, 2010
Authored by: Ashe Mischief

In the wake of my excitement over the arrival of Tarina Tarantino jewelry, I find that Manhattanite is keeping my spirits and excitement up with the arrival of Spun organic clothing.  Spun is one of my favorite independently owned clothing companies, with a bright, visionary young woman owning and operating it (along with designing all of those great separates!).

My favorite Spun piece is the Diane wrap dress— I have one in Midnight blue that I wear constantly.  It never ceases to make me feel sexy, confident, and comfortable.  It’s super easy to dress up and dress down, and it’s an essential part of my work and play wardrobe.

I can’t help but eyeball the low v-necks as well.  The Tibetan blue is so vibrant– a great, casual addition to the Spring wardrobe, and a steal at $40 (especially for organic cotton & made in the USA!).

The Best Yoga Pants on the Planet – So Low…So Good

So Low Yoga

So maybe you had a little too much Tofurkey and even your stretch denim is making faces at you….

So maybe your idea of working out is doing calf raises in Target while waiting in line on Black Friday…

So maybe you are one of those green juice drinking, yoga doing, marathon running girls who’s backsides make even straight girls weep…

So what? So I am now irrevocably convinced that a pair of So Low yoga pants is for you. I recently snagged two pairs and now understand what the fuss is all about – Cameron Diaz is a fan and probably gets sent about a zillion free pairs of yoga pants a week so the fact that she has worn the same pair of So Lows out on at least a few occasions, well it means a least a little bit of a something.  These pants are the perfect thickness, hit the belly at the perfect not too low spot, and have a supporting (read lifting) bit of stretch that makes these one damn flattering pair of yoga pants. Also, Manhattanite has a ton of different styles, umm hello sparkle waist band, how’s it going purple leopard, so you are sure to find at least a few pairs to make you smile.

A few tips, I’m glad I ordered the large, because they do run rather snug, and at 5’6′ – I could use probably about an inch hem on these to wear with my ballet shoes/bare feet. Also, there are several pairs on some serious sale right now at 50% off (though I would absolutely splurge on these at full price, and I never thought I would say that about workout pants) so my last tip is to snag them up before I do! Seriously.

Still searching for that perfect Halloween costume? You don’t have to look much further than Manhattanites to channel a little Sandra Dee!

Over the years, countless girls have found inspiration in one or more of the many aspects of Olivia Newton-John’s iconic Grease character. Whether it was the fresh, white dress, the All-American cheerleader or the life of the party prom dress, Sandy spoke to a piece of you. Hands down, her leather & heels getup for the carnival took the cake for me. The sweetest Pink Lady turned bad girl to get her man. How could Danny Zuko resist that?

Update your Sandra Dee ensemble with today’s trends, from latex high-waisted leggings, ruching & zip details. Not only will you rock this year’s Halloween party, but you can incorporate these pieces into your wardrobe afterwards!

The Latest Must-Have: Cake Satin Sugar Hair & Body Powder

picture-1picture-2

I have long been a huge advocate of hair powder, and have convincingly made converts of a handful of friends that have a similar, fine hair texture to mine. If you hate washing your hair everyday but loathe when it starts to look a little less than stellar, hair powder can become your new favorite tool to boost volume, absorb oil, and overall increase the lustre of your hair. I’m really into the Cake Satin Sugar Hair & Body Refreshing Powder, $18 since you can use it to refresh your hair as well as on your hot bod!  The multi-tasking product is talc-free and includes calendula and chamomile to smooth while it softens. The 1.7 oz formulat is also purse-size, so when you have to go right from work to an event, you’re all set! It’s available for both lighter hues and darker hues.

Sometimes an Oops is a Good Thing!

missoops

I recently discovered the brand Miss Oops, and upon testing out several of the products, I must admit: I’m addicted! The products are so practical and effortless to use, that I almost look forward to my next “oops” moment so that I can whip them out! The item the brand is most know for, and the one that I always have in my handbag is the Miss Oops Rescue Sponge, $10, that miraculously removes those nuisance stains that appear on your clothes such as makeup, deodorant, or powder. The brand also offers other products to simplify some of those little annoying issues you may have with your clothing such as Show Stoppers (reusable nipple covers), Mishap Tape (for bra straps, gaping tops, etc), Pucker Protector (combine lip balm and gloss), and Pedicure in a Bottle (hydrates & exfoliates feet).

Plus, the Critical Care Kit makes a great holiday or birthday gift for practically any female friend or loved one in your life; and on sale for $22.80, it’s the right price for us budget-conscious “oops” babes!

Foot Petals: A Love Note to My Shoes & Feet

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009
Authored by: Ashe Mischief

The tag line for Foot Petals is appropriate, at least for my own relationship with my shoes: for those of us who have a love/hate relationship with our sexy shoes.

I can’t tell you how many pairs of shoes I own that aren’t well cushioned on the ball, that slide off my heels, slide against the ground, have arch support in an odd spot–needless to say, it’s not a good feeling to get a new pair of shoes home, get excited about them & wear them out, only to find out they don’t fit right.

So I did something about it.

I like to think I ordered a “Variety Pack” of Foot Petals products from Manhattanite: Heavenly Heels, Killer Kushionz, Tip Toes (the item Foot Petals are best known for), and Sole Stopperz. I had two particularly offensive pairs of shoes I was itching to put these guys in, a pair of super slippery Pour La Victoire heels and my size too big United Nude wedges.

The quality of Foot Petals was apparent from inside the packaging– they’re firm, soft, and incredibly well cushioned.

My United Nude shoes are a size too large– they were an amazing eBay steal, and it’s impossible to find another pair in a size smaller.  I combined the Sole Stopperz with the Heavenly Heelz, hoping that the insert would provide an extra bit of narrowness and “tighten them up” and the heel insert would prevent slippage.  And it was successful!

For my other shoes, the Pour La Victoire heels, the massive heel (5″!) coupled with a super slick sole makes me super scared to wear the out of the house. I picked up the Sole Stopperz in hopes that they could add enough texture to make me feel safe to wear them…

I’m not sure if the ball of the shoe is too large for one Sole Stopperz or if it is just THAT slippery, because while it provided more traction than it originally had, I’m not sure that one would sufficiently make me feel safe to walk… the plus side is that each pack comes with 2 pairs, so I can easily add more to the shoe for extra traction!

Overall, I’m ecstatic and super pleased with the Foot Petals collection, and find that while they cost a bit more than the alternatives at your local drugstore, the quality is infinitely better.  Make your feet happy, break out those shoes you thought you’d never wear again, and invest in some foot petals 😉

Admiring Erin Fetherston

I’d been admiring Erin Fetherston’s most recent short film, Birds of a Fether and have been enchanted with her whimsical, girlish style. I love the idea of finding pieces with the same similar aesthetic, but a more affordable cost.

A whimsical dress by Betsey Johnson (for $108/down from $360!). It’s perfect for following that bird. Pair with pretty black patent pumps (or adorn them with sequins and glitter with an extra special kick!).

This plum Lauren Conrad Dress is versatile and great for customizing. It’d be perfect paired with a black velvet bow belt or pinned to the bodice.

Save Yourself with Sole Stopperz

I have two pairs of shoes that are absolute death traps. Seriously, those shoes are so slippery that I am a danger to myself and others when I wear them. I have tried to “scuff” them up by rapidly sliding my feet back and forth on the sidewalk, but nothing — still slippery. I have actually had a few embarrassing falls because of this problem.

sole_stopperz

That problem is now a problem of the past thanks to this magnificent invention called Sole Stopperz … Excuse me, I am having a ‘why didn’t I think of that’ moment right now. Anyway, this $7 shoe sticker can seriously save your behind from injury and embarrassment. Just stick it on the sole of your shoe and go.

Genius I tells ya, genius!
