Are your PJ’s giving you the yawns? Time to upgrade

Authored by: Crosby

I’ve gotten into a bit of a bad habit. It’s called sleep in what you wore to work minus a few layers (leggings and a tank) or reach into the “sleepwear” bin and pull out whatever is on top. Recently this meant a pair of x-large red snowflake flannel bottoms and a faded yellow tank. Not acceptable, especially when Manhattanite has so many adorable things to romp around in come bedtime, and some are even on sale (tack on an extra 20% off if you are reading this before 1/18 with code SALE20).

Personally I can’t get enough of the Scanty Bucky Tunic Top and matching shorts - because the fun print has two of my favorite things - skulls and argyle. That’s enough to give me a giggle prancing about come morning with a steaming cup of coffee (yeah right, when do I ever wake up in enough time to actually make the coffee!) Plus if you squint your eyes, the skulls almost look like pandas  - do you see it? Or am I hallucinating from exhaustion?

Coming in at a close second is the PJ Salvage Animal Instinct Leopard combo, which is sure to put anybody in the mood for some quality cuddling/canoodling - sleeping isn’t always about sleeping, you know. Le blush.

A Case of The Navy Blues

Friday, December 4th, 2009
Authored by: Crosby

For the longest time navy reminded me of the perfume advertised in my YM Magazine. It meant preppy, it was the color of my elementary school uniforms, especially those scratchy cardigan sweaters. I believed that you either chose brown, gray, blue or black as your anchor color, and never should the twine intersect (except for gray and black, of course - what would life be without black and gray). I never was a blue girl, never chose blue as a wall color, have never driven a blue car (pickle green yes, but never blue) and until recently, have really only considered the color when pulling out the frosty blue eyeshadow to wear to an eighties party.

Recently however, blue has seemed almost a bit subversive - to choose navy over black, or any shade of blue over my beloved red and pink -  it’s sacrilege! Given the thrill of breaking my own rules, I’ve picked out a few Manhattanite pieces that I’m sure will help me ease into the blues this winter.

Holiday Blues

Look at me, I’m Sandra Dee

Still searching for that perfect Halloween costume? You don’t have to look much further than Manhattanites to channel a little Sandra Dee!

Over the years, countless girls have found inspiration in one or more of the many aspects of Olivia Newton-John’s iconic Grease character. Whether it was the fresh, white dress, the All-American cheerleader or the life of the party prom dress, Sandy spoke to a piece of you. Hands down, her leather & heels getup for the carnival took the cake for me. The sweetest Pink Lady turned bad girl to get her man. How could Danny Zuko resist that?

Update your Sandra Dee ensemble with today’s trends, from latex high-waisted leggings, ruching & zip details. Not only will you rock this year’s Halloween party, but you can incorporate these pieces into your wardrobe afterwards!

Intro to FreshJess

Hi Manhattanites! I’m FreshJess, a Seattle lifestyle blogger with a penchant for keeping stylish while I’m on the go and making things happen in this beautiful city. I’m honored to be among such great, inspirational ladies here on the Manhattanites blog and look forward to sharing my style with you.

I’m so excited to transition into fall, and in Seattle we always have to be ready for extremely variable weather conditions during this time. In addition to carrying my umbrella and sunglasses everywhere, here are a few fall essentials I’ve found thanks to Manhattanites. I am all for sexy & sassy basics sprinkled with bright splashes of color!

FallEssentials

Clockwise from top left:

  • David Lerner Organic Cap Sleeve Pocket Tee: You know how it gets cold & rainy outside, but when you step indoors it’s way too hot for your jacket? That’s when this soft & flowy tee shines.
  • Siwy Hannah Slim Crop Jean in Wet Jet: These pants will look fab with anything and everything. Riding boots & blazer in the day, stilettos & sequined top at night…imagine the possibilities!
  • Tolani Braided Scarf: I love the color & braided detail of this scarf. It’s like bringing the last of sunny days along with me into the fall.
  • Mackage Quinn Coat: The high neckline, plaid & button detail make this the perfect coat for the young, professional style maven.
  • CC Skye Mimi Bag: This bag brings a ray of sunshine to our many cloudy days ahead. Love!
  • KRMA Dean Leather Jacket: Worn with the Siwy Hannah & a pair of red stilettos, it’s easy to channel Sandra Dee with this hot little jacket number.

Admiring Erin Fetherston

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009
Authored by: Ashe Mischief

I’d been admiring Erin Fetherston’s most recent short film, Birds of a Fether and have been enchanted with her whimsical, girlish style. I love the idea of finding pieces with the same similar aesthetic, but a more affordable cost.

A whimsical dress by Betsey Johnson (for $108/down from $360!). It’s perfect for following that bird. Pair with pretty black patent pumps (or adorn them with sequins and glitter with an extra special kick!).

This plum Lauren Conrad Dress is versatile and great for customizing. It’d be perfect paired with a black velvet bow belt or pinned to the bodice.

Intro to Vyqué of Fasshonaburu

Authored by: Fasshonaburu

Greetings! My name is Vyqué and I’ve been fashion blogging over at Fasshonaburu for almost five years now! You’d think this would be warning enough, but I guess you all can’t get enough of my run on sentences because here I am! My great love is trying to predict fashion trends, and sometimes I’m even right (I wrote about drop crotch harem pants in 2008!)! If you can forgive my incorrigible grammar, I’m sure we’ll get along great, and I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you.

With that, here’s a little something that’s  been on my radar for summer fashion:

Grecian Style

Sorry Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, but I am SO over boho looks for summer! I still want to convey a soft, breezy look - black and neon 80s style just feel too harsh to me right now! Luckily, there is the classic, yet totally un-boring Grecian style! Think floaty fabrics of jersey & chiffon, pleating & studs, metallics, and one shoulder dresses & tops! It’s a super romantic look, but can be edged up with hardware if you please. And don’t fear color - not all that is Grecian has to be white and gold.

Introducing Good Girl Gone Shopping

Elana PruittSo here’s the deal, I know that boots are typically not really a summertime shoe. But when it comes to my BCBGirls’ booties, I just can’t turn my back on them… not just yet. That said, my solution to making them work for me in the summer is to pair them up with brightly colored, summer dresses (of course, I will continue to wear them with skinny jeans…).

As for the selection of flirty, affordable dresses that Manhattanite has available? Well, well, I am a bit head over heels for them. Discounts and clearance on fabulous designer wear makes me swoon – honestly. Those who don’t know me just yet, allow me to say that as the Good Girl Gone Shopping, you will soon learn how obsessive I am about shopping sales and budgeting thy finances. In addition to being a fashion blogger, I am also a personal shopper (GGGS was formerly ‘Diary of a Personal Shopper’) who lives to find the perfect pieces to complement a gal’s personality and lifestyle. My name is Elana Pruitt – nice to meet ya!

So, here are my top five picks from the Manhattanite closet. I have personally selected dresses that each retail for about 150 bucks or less. Whether you pair them up with your own booties, peep-toe heels, flat gladiator sandals, or even stilettos, you can make each one a new story to tell. Check them out:

Introducing ALIXROSE

Authored by: alixrose

I am assuming you are a lover of great clothes and take pride in your style, especially since you find yourself on Manhattanite’s fashion blog. Therefore, you are a person after my own heart. Before I get ahead of myself, let me give you a little insight into who I am.

alixhernandez

I am a petite chatter box, that writes by day and by night. Yes, a girl’s work is never done, but there’s no harm when its something you love. I pour my heart into my personal fashion blog Alixrose everyday.

alixrose-1

It’s where I do my best to infuse fashion trends from editorial spreads, designer collections, and fashion photography, into my readers’ daily wardrobe. There is also a special interview feature where readers are given a little a little glimpse into the world of designers and bloggers. I do my best to keep it fun and light - if you know my blog, it’s pretty evident that I usually write the way I talk. I try not to take anything too seriously, I mean how can you when you’re constantly looking at pretty things??

That brings me to why I am delighted to be blogging for Manhattanite. The style of clothes really fit my lifestyle and I am certain inspiration won’t be hard to find. In fact, just looking through a few pages of the Manhattanite shop has me reeling with ideas. Also, the blogger crew is made up of  some of my favorite bloggers and I am ecstatic to be a part of this with them.

I look forward to putting some ideas to paper and sharing them with you. If you have any questions or comments, you can always find me here. :)

Introducing Jordana of Clutch22

Authored by: Clutch22

Hey shopping mavens! My name is Jordana and I have an indie style blog called Clutch 22. As a blogger who has been obsessed with Manhattanite since I bought my first pair of Siwy jeans over a year ago (the Hannah’s in Kiss shown in the pic below; original post here)…it’s no surprise that I’m thrilled to be a part of the virtual ”Manhattanites.”

side1.jpg

To kick things off for my first official post, I want to share some of my favorite party dresses for summer. My birthday is July 3rd, so finding the perfect look has definitely been on my mind. What I love about Manhattanite is the bi-coastal variety - I love the sharp edgy styles from the streets of New York, but there are times where I want to rock a boho beach chic look as seen more in cities like LA and San Diego.  I have no idea what I’ll end up doing to celebrate, but as long as it’s sunny (let’s hope Seattle is good to me this year), all of the below are sure to do the trick.
