A Must Have Travel Companion

Can I start by saying that I love simple but genius products. I do. I really do. Whenever I travel I always bring along one of those cute fabric laundry bags. I bring all of my clean underwear in them, then I empty them out, and then I slowly add the dirty ones in place of the clean ones. I’m sure you are very familiar with that process. However, and maybe it’s just me, the system doesn’t seem perfect. I don’t want my clean underwear just wandering around my suitcase while the dirty ones get to chill in the awesome little bag. Right?

Well than you Dogeared for this helpful solution. A bag that has two compartments — one for clean and one more dirty. It add awesome to genius, the bag has cute little illustrations on them so you can easily tell which pair goes where.

How bad do you want one? I want one REALLY bad.

When it comes to fashion, I am a fall girl at heart. I just love dark colors and layering but in the summer that look simply won’t do. What does get me excited about summer is jewelry. Natural forms such as rocks and stones, and vibrant colors really get my summer mood brewing.

The jewelry by Kendra Scott on Manhattanite definitely got me in that summer state of mind. I love, love, love the turquoise set of bangles. The bangles are the perfect combination of that island girl and hippie chick.  I also love the Danielle earrings by Kendra Scott, they have yacht luxury written all over them.

Best part about her jewelry is that it is totally affordable. Shop for it on Manhattanite today!

Master Festive Relaxation with a Caftan

Maybe it’s my inner collegiate still expecting her Spring Break, but I’ve got vacations on my mind. It goes something like, clear calm waters, a selection of VC Andrews novels, and a tiny wifi enabled hut on the beach that comes with a spout that alternates sangria and lime beer. Of course, this fantasy also includes daydreams of silver bikinis, batik scarves, over-sized opalescent shades and a new, island-inspired scent  (I have been known to put on suntan oil just to feel closer to the land of sandy bliss). Also packed into my vision is this striped, Sofia by ViX Marley Caftan Coverup, the perfect thing to toss on after a hard day of doing absolutely nothing in the sun. Who’s with me?

Fluxus Movement

Fluxus screams wearability, mobility, movement and style.  It’s your inner-city art movement.  It’s the beat generation in jersey.  Fluxus incorporates “simple but tactile materials such as jersey cotton, tri-blend and the signature hand of the burnout in avant-garde shapes and cuts for men and women.”  The look has an instant bohemian urbanite edge, putting a modern spin on age old ideals - blurring the line between artistic genres.

Manhattanite carries a large selection of Fluxus goods and in the event that your wallet is looking a little lighter than usual, there’s a whole boatload of pieces marked down.  Here are some of the gorgeous goods I’ve got my eye on:

Wear the Fluxus Button Corset over the Graphic Burnout Pocket Tank for an edgy artist look.  Pair it with skinny jeans and giant boots for added effect.

Alternately try the Fluxus Peep Hole Dress for a night out.  Top it with the Fluxus Ruffle Scarf to sweeten the deal.

Slouchy boots and a beret make this beatnick-bombshell look complete.

If you’re still feeling winter wherever you are, one of these sweaters is sure to put a little spring in your step.

Either look can be paired with longer gloves (bonus points if they’re fingerless for freedom of movement) for a quick fix to those still-chilly mornings.  They’d both look amazing with leggings, or dark skinny denim.

You can tell, I’m totally smitten with these designs - the look is perfect for the rainy Northwest, your bohemian lifestyle, urban uprising, and any art genre.

Hot to Top: Lauren Moshi Bow Piper Tee

moshi

Lauren Moshi tops have always been a favorite of mine. The illustrations are amazing and they are really comfortable to wear. I always lean more towards Lauren’ edgier designs but there is something about this sweet little bow tee that is completely awesome to me. Perhaps its because its been 80+ degrees for the past few days (in Los Angeles) that is getting me into spring fever/spring wardrobe mode … Whatever is it, this shirt is amazing.

Wear it with white cutoff shorts in the summer or if you can’t wait and want to wear it now, try it with black leggings and a leather jacket — that’s probably how I would wear it.

Siwy Shorts, a clear summer essential

Here at Manhattanite, its clear that Siwy denim is very well loved by all our bloggers and staff alike, and Spring/Summer 2010 brings in more reasons why we still won’t be able to stop raving about this romantic denim label.

siwy

The Siwy Camilla is once again re-invented in many new washes but its the vintage “Stardust” wash that really caught my eye. Faded to perfection without really having the re-visit the bad 80s acid wash, it is cleverly finished with a subtle amount of studs that compliment the look without making it look “punk”. Wear it with whatever you choose, I’m sure it would give your outfit an extra ooomph, thanks to the nonchalant feel.

The other studded pair in Gypsy features bright gold studs which offsets the dark indigo wash, bound to catch a lot of specific attention on the lower half of your body. This is my favourite wash to wear for the evening with some earthy coloured wedge heels.

Summer is almost here and I’m pretty sure anyone would be happier with a perkier ass in this siwy denim shorts, running along the beach or walking down the city with that little twinkle in the eye because there is just something unspoken but special about this denim label that will keep you coming back for more and more. I know I am definitely a sucker for them.

Manhattanites choose SPUN: Organic Cotton Clothing

Monday, March 22nd, 2010
Authored by: Ashe Mischief

In the wake of my excitement over the arrival of Tarina Tarantino jewelry, I find that Manhattanite is keeping my spirits and excitement up with the arrival of Spun organic clothing.  Spun is one of my favorite independently owned clothing companies, with a bright, visionary young woman owning and operating it (along with designing all of those great separates!).

My favorite Spun piece is the Diane wrap dress– I have one in Midnight blue that I wear constantly.  It never ceases to make me feel sexy, confident, and comfortable.  It’s super easy to dress up and dress down, and it’s an essential part of my work and play wardrobe.

I can’t help but eyeball the low v-necks as well.  The Tibetan blue is so vibrant– a great, casual addition to the Spring wardrobe, and a steal at $40 (especially for organic cotton & made in the USA!).

Psychedelic Chic

I stumbled across the blog this morning to find Ashe’s post about the Tarina Tarantino jewelry at Manhattanite right now.   I literally almost jumped out of my seat.  Tarina’s baubles are totally fun and I immediately headed to Polyvore to create fun outfits to go with them.

Everything that drew my eye had a psycheldelic-rock chic feel when I paired it up - a little glam rock here, some weekend bohemia there…  I mean, hippies are out out, but that tye-dyed bohemian look is still hot when given an ultra-modern twist.

I love the way it looks layered under a blazer or cute bomber jacket, or and it takes on a new flavor with a shredded tee and some killer heels.  Check out these modern spins on this psychedelic favorite featuring  some of Tarina Tarantino’s arm candy.

Manhattanite black

Go for that modern glam-rock look; sleek, with a few bright baubles to catch the eye.  Always the girl on the go, pick up a svelte little day planner to keep your busy life organized, and hide it in an oversized bohemian-fringed bag.  This look has a “saucy artiste” feel, and without being overly pretentious it’s sure to turn heads.

From Manhattanite

A little more playful and flirty, this look packs a little more punch with a punch-colored bag by C.C. Skye.  The leather bomber gives this look a harder edge, but with the sleeves pushed up to a 3/4 length, you’ve got room to adorn yourself.  Pick bright lucite bracelets from Tarina Tarantino and this ultra-chic broken mirror bracelet from C.C. Skye.  A rolled-up boyfriend jean gives this look a weekend feel - for an afternoon of shopping, or an evening of drinks.

I love that tye-dye look paired with the bright colors of Tarina T’s jewelry.  Give a modern edge to your tye-dye to make it wearable in this millennium.

Tarina Tarantino Now at Manhattanite!

Imagine a girl and her morning routine: a mug of jasmine green tea (for a boost of antioxidants), striped pajamas, sunshine pouring in the windows, a fluffy cat, and browing Shop Manhattanite before work.   She clicks on the New Arrivals link only to see the bedazzled and sparkling babbles and bijouxes of New York’s own Tarina Tarantino shining up at her.

I knew Manhattanite wanted to start carrying Tarina’s line, but I wasn’t sure if that magic would be happening.  So it was a magical surprise to find the site littered with her pieces, including these sparkling and basic lucite bracelets.  I love them for the vibrant colors and stackability– how playful and sexy are they when worn in multiples?  At $38 a pop, it’s easy to spring for an armful, too (available in jet black, crystal, emerald, black diamond, fuschia, and grape. I’m eyeing the black, crystal, and fuschia, myself, though I do love them all).

Her collection of crystal flower earrings are amazing as well– I love imaging the studs on my teenage nieces and the drop earrings adorning my own ears.

High Society Tailored Denim: Kasil

Friday, February 12th, 2010
Authored by: Birdie

Let’s preface this post with the fact that my work attire is business casual. With all the choices out there, one might think business casual would be an easy wardrobe to build. This isn’t the case though, when it comes to bottoms - I need something besides the standard skinny jean or legging.  I need something that is polished, not distressed. Business casual invokes the image of something chic, that can be dressed up or down.  It’s what Kasil does best.

Manhattanites has just what I’ve been looking for, but have been unable to find: Kasil.  Kasil’s jeans are gorgeous – what designer, David Lim calls “painting with denim”. The extreme blues make other washes pale in comparison and the cut reflects the company’s “High Society Tailoring” background.

Kasil Hepburn Trouser

Either of these trousers would be perfect, paired with a long button-down and a well-cut suit vest. It’s a look that easily transitions from work to happy hour when paired with the right shoes, and some great jewelry.

The extreme colors are reflected in Kasil’s other styles – the Olivia Jean is the perfect color in a versatile boot cut, and the Stevie Jean is a sexy dark-wash, slim-fit – more versatile and comfortable than the standard skinny. This is your casual Friday meets smokey-eye, weekend sex-kitten look.

Kasil Stevie

The designer’s style screams vintage inspiration – in color and composition. Nothing is more apparent than the way the line is named: Benetar, Hepburn, Stevie. The high thread count quality and wash techniques are sure to build character every time a pair of Kasil jeans is worn.

Denim is alive! Denim fades, wrinkles and creases over time the more you wear. Random holes and rips that suddenly appear are all natural characteristics of your jeans.

That’s the beauty of denim, each hole, rip, crease, wrinkle, dirt, or paint that has become of your favorite pair is a story that is told within your life.
