Dress down in plaid like a celeb!

Definitely a wardrobe essential, plaid shirts are a common interest between celebrities and are constantly on the celebrity style radar. Channel a grunge look with a pair of equally classic doc martens or smarten them up with well-fitting jeans and a pair of comfortable wedge heels. Whichever way you choose to wear it, it is dead easy to look comfortable and cool at the same time.

Rails offer a variety of plaid styles and cuts so it’s safe to say there is enough plaid to go around with! I especially love the short sleeved cropped style which will look adorable with a flirty above-the-knee skirt and a pair of lace-up wedge boots. It also comes in navy blue!

If it’s chilly where you are now, the long sleeved button-down version also make a great layering piece with a warm coat and tough looking boots. The best bit however about these shirts are that they are all just under $100, of good quality and have a narrow cut. It just doesn’t get any better than this!

Mackage: Utilitarian Chic for the Masses

I’ve been browsing outerwear as fall flurries into our fair city.

Voom - Eva Coat, on sale at Manhattanites

While my newest acquisition is this cute swingy, 60′s-esque coat by Voom, I can’t help but drool over Mackage’s prim-but-utilitarian, ultra-tailored, super-luxe coats.  It’s neo-victorian meets urban dwellers and it somehow seems so right for the season – whether the look is ultra ladylike, or military-inspired.

Mackage- Quinn Coat

Ladylike bell sleeves and the extra length in the back offset the oversized collar and pockets.  The look is militant, but soft.

Mackage - Gia Coat

With a nipped in waist, cowl neck and large buttons, this coat has a futuristic ladies-in-menswear feel.  I see oxfords and slim suit pants; silk and leather gloves.

This next coat is my favorite from the group…

Mackage - Trixie Coat

Victorian puffed sleeves in a slim cut and a center yoke give this coat a vintage feel in a streamlined modern way.   It says “high-street urban gamin” – ultra tailored, without being overly fussy.

And as fall rolls it’s way into winter, ladies will be wearing these in style.  The looks are modern, but not overly forward – they are looks that will last!

How I wore it: Siwy Hannah in One Love

img_0665-medium2The Siwy jeans that I spoke of in my last post arrived recently and it didn’t take long for me to start wearing them. The sizing and the fit is so reliable; I have gotten so used to their jeans that I don’t need to worry if it may or may not fit when it arrives.

I paired them with a lace bodysuit from Topshop and my favourite cropped jacket by Adam. However, I’d imagine it would be much colder where you are right now so I strongly suggest a leather bomber jacket to go with these sleek grey jeans.

Sometime in 2004, supermodel and trendsetter Kate Moss started sporting the grey “frayed misfit” jean by Australian label, Sass & Bide, which quite literally turned the small Aussie designer from a little secret to very big news.  High street stores were suddenly packed with super skinny grey jeans as well, to accommodate fans of another new trend that Kate Moss has started.

I am certainly no blind follower to trends but the grey jean have been around quite a bit since then, no longer as a trend from 2004, but falling into the same comfort zone as your usual denim blues.

For me, grey is my favourite colour for jeans. It makes the other colours in your outfit stand out better and since it’s less common than your usual blue jean, I always felt a bit more different, perhaps even better in them.

I am also quite specific about the shade of grey jeans there is to offer on the market. It seems that the most flattering shades tend to be around the mid-grey section. If it is too dark, you can’t see the contrast with the rest of your outfit well and if it is too light, it just adds more weight to where you don’t like.

Now the 2010 Kate has been seen strutting around town in her new Siwy grey jeans, suitably named One Love. This is a light-medium grey looking jean with graduated dark grey contrast closer to the seam which very kindly hides away the sins (if any). Trust Kate Moss to show me the perfect shade of grey which I have been looking for, yet again!

Amanda Uprichard’s Perfect Summer Dress

What makes the perfect summer dress? To me the perfect summer dress has to be effortless, sexy without being raunchy, casual, comfortable, stylish, and unique — but not so unique that you can’t get away with wearing it every single day . Oh and the perfect summer dress can never, ever make you feel fat.

With all that being said, I think we just found the perfect summer dress.

I simply adore this racer back dress from Amanda Uprichard. The flowy tent-like silhouette allows you to go to town at that summer BBQ while looking polished and put together. This dress can even work as a cover-up at the beach.  Add heels to this bad boy and you can head out for an evening dinner date with that special summer someone (aka some random summer fling).

Want to know one more great thing about this dress? It’s under $200. Yep. Score!!

My Concert Outfit & Current Obsession

A few weeks ago I went to an awesome outdoor concert dressed like that! This was me in the changing room after work, swapping a skirt for my new Siwy camilla shorts in Fascination wash, which at the moment are my favourite shorts. I have been wearing them on the weekends ever since I got them almost a month ago! They are great for lazy summer days when you just want to put on a loose tank or shirt on, the crazy dip dyed print just makes the entire outfit less dull. I definitely got a lot of stares wearing them and love it!

On the other hand, I am rather smitten with this Chrissy L attraction ring at the moment. I love the look of uneven glass stones together, it reminds me of how much we forget about nature sometimes. It makes me miss the beautiful cliffs back where I used to live in Swansea in the UK. To have it on my finger would probably become a permanent fixture. I do get attached to jewellery, like the crucifix that I am wearing in my outfit above.

Hey Stud, Wessex is in Stock!

wessexI’ve said it before and I’ll say it again … I love studs! I really do. They add an element of toughness and style to the most casual and comfortable garments. I pretty much live in leggings and tee shirts. In fact these days, I get pretty upset if I have to wear anything but just that.  That being said, just because I want comfort doesn’t mean I don’t want style. That is why I was super excited to see that Mahattanite is now carrying Wessex.

These black studded leggings by Wessex are to die for. So rocker-chic, so awesome, so me, so mine as soon as I get paid :) If studded leggings are too much for you then you really should give this studded tank top a spin. Its simple but ornate enough to wear out to dinner on a Friday night.

Shop for Wessex right now on Manhattanite.

Don’t Wash Your Siwys, please?

I have been raving so much about Siwy Denim for the past few posts that I just had to continue the trail with Michelle Siwy’s advice on the best way to treat your pair of Siwys. This is for those whose obsession with Siwy is just as unhealthy as mine and want to make your denim accustomed solely to yourself.

Michelle’s advice is pretty simple, “Its best not to wash them for six months. The salt from your skin will soften it and make them your own. If you need to refresh, spot treat and dry with dryer sheets. Then after, wash inside out, cool with a non-abrasive soap like lingerie detergent and hang in the sunshine to dry.”

It might sound a bit crazy not to wash your denim for six months but from personal experience, my hand washed pair of the Camilla shorts just do not look the same as the pair that I have allowed self-cleaning by drying under natural sunlight. I also found that the more often you wear them, the softer and more comfortable they get and not washing them maintains the intended look and keeps them looking more relaxed as well. Monitoring how the jeans mould into your very own is almost like art, something that no one can replicate. The process, you can say is actually rather beautiful.

My Siwy’s have always been more than just clothing to me, perhaps like an extension of myself now. I live most of my weekends in them and they remind me of a more carefree, lazy and easy-going part of life. It just makes sense to also clean them as naturally as possible and to wear them so frequently till they start to soften into the contours of your own body. I hope Michelle Siwy’s advice was as useful for you as it has been for me.

Double Rings Rule

6a00e5504d1b2f88330128756fab32970c-800wiI had been intrigued by the two-finger ring for quite some time. About six months ago I found one at Forever 21. I know, Forever 21 is knock-off city but I wanted to see if I liked wearing one before spending more than $3.80. Well turns out I like the double ring quite a lot. In fact, I wear it almost everyday (its very comfortable). However, because I am so tired of my fingers turning green — I have decided its time for a double ring upgrade.

The best and only option for me is Erica Anenberg. As far as I know, Erica started the trend. My personal favorite is the ‘Cosmo Sparkle’, which is 14k gold plated and have swarovski crystals on it. Gorgeous and it’s only $100. If you aren’t into bling there are plain options too for $80.
