The Best Yoga Pants on the Planet - So Low…So Good

Friday, November 27th, 2009

So Low Yoga

So maybe you had a little too much Tofurkey and even your stretch denim is making faces at you….

So maybe your idea of working out is doing calf raises in Target while waiting in line on Black Friday…

So maybe you are one of those green juice drinking, yoga doing, marathon running girls who’s backsides make even straight girls weep…

So what? So I am now irrevocably convinced that a pair of So Low yoga pants is for you. I recently snagged two pairs and now understand what the fuss is all about - Cameron Diaz is a fan and probably gets sent about a zillion free pairs of yoga pants a week so the fact that she has worn the same pair of So Lows out on at least a few occasions, well it means a least a little bit of a something.  These pants are the perfect thickness, hit the belly at the perfect not too low spot, and have a supporting (read lifting) bit of stretch that makes these one damn flattering pair of yoga pants. Also, Manhattanite has a ton of different styles, umm hello sparkle waist band, how’s it going purple leopard, so you are sure to find at least a few pairs to make you smile.

A few tips, I’m glad I ordered the large, because they do run rather snug, and at 5′6′ - I could use probably about an inch hem on these to wear with my ballet shoes/bare feet. Also, there are several pairs on some serious sale right now at 50% off (though I would absolutely splurge on these at full price, and I never thought I would say that about workout pants) so my last tip is to snag them up before I do! Seriously.

Get Into Some Anlo Denim!

One denim label to look out for on Manhattanite is Anlo, who seems to have got the “skinny” look well  sorted out in their dark and flattering shades. Not only are they super tight and super sexy, for their Fall/Winter 09 collection, they have come up with some very clean-cut and smooth designs equipped with subtle yet outstanding detail.

My favourite has got to be the Ella Studded Jean, as I have an obsession with studs. The studded detailing only covers the top part of the bottom, making it still easy to sit on and also not overwhelming the whole “rock chick” look. The exposed zip on the ankle is another fantastic add-on to this pair and it is definitely my denim choice to get for this season!

The Willa straight leg jean in midnight is just fantastic for nights out, and making black denim look far more interesting than usual. If you are thinking of leather pants, these actually offer an extremely similar look.

The wash on the Ellie jean with buttons is superb as well, i love the unique smoky greyish-blue wash and that you have the option to free up your ankles whenever you like!

I cannot wait to get my hands on a pair, so now I just need to see which wash/cut/style I am actually lacking in my wardrobe and then make the big decision! What do you think?

A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes: Disney Couture

Are you a Disney princess at heart?

Whether young or old, Disney’s whimsical world has left an imprint on many a girl’s dreams. Of course, most of us don’t have a Never Never Land - and as we grow older, our love for Disney become fond memories of our past. Now, with Disney Couture jewelry, you can incorporate a little of that nostalgia and magic into your everyday wardrobe!

Disney Couture jewelry features gold and silver-plated pieces mixing beloved icons like Tinkerbell, Cinderella’s castle and Snow White’s mirror with contemporary fashion. Guest designer Kidada Jones contributes fun and playful pieces combined with artful street style.

These pieces remind me of all my girlfriends who scramble to get the latest Disney Classic movie for the kids they don’t even have yet, just so they can share the enchantment they experienced when we were children. Here’s to a perfect holiday gift for the Disney princess(es) in your life!

He’s Just a Skater (Baby) Boy

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009
Authored by: Lauren Messiah

It’s never too early too dress your kid up like a slacker! Pre-determine your child’s social standings early and effectively with these adorable skater socks. They’ve got the look of Vans but the softness of baby booties.  The socks come in a variety of colors and would make a great gift for the holidays (yep, its starting to be that time again). Now all you need is a Nirvana onesie, a backward cap, and little skateboard — then your kid will really fit in with all the cool outcasts. Rockin, dude!

Btw — I totally kid with my skater stereotypes. Skaters are the coolest!

skter-johnnyOf course if you don’t want to have a skater baby, there are tons of other sock options for the kiddies on Manhattanite. Like, for real, a lot of options; Mary Janes, argyle, polka dots, camo, sneaker socks, ballerina socks, and tons more! Check em out.

The Written Word

Monday, October 26th, 2009
Authored by: Ashe Mischief

For as much as I value the written word in all of its incarnations, I’m terrible about writing with my hands.  I’ve an avid love of stationery’s, notecards, means and tools for sending love letters to those in my lives, even though I rarely do it…

hearts1

I absolutely adore this heart notecard set. It’s 80s and precocious– perfect for writing notes of inspiration to my teenaged nieces.

I love love the Modern Geometry stationery set.  The pieces are so bold, so striking, that I would almost want to frame these in thick white frames to create a great, cheap art collection.

These stationery sets are beautiful, vibrant pieces of art, just like penmanship is. They’d be a dream to add to my desk drawers to inspire me to do more hand written letters (and learn to write more neatly in the process!).

Mad About Mackage

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

I am nuts about Mackage. As it gets more & more frigid by the day, I’m naturally drawn to things that will keep me cozy and warm without sacrificing style.

Thanks to Manhattanites, my peacoat game has been elevated with this beautiful outerwear brand. I love the sleek, military style that shapes each coat. Details both raw and feminine, from leather belts, & high collars to jeweled buttons & princess puff sleeves, make these pieces extra special. Eran Elfassy and Elisa Dahan, the fabulous friends behind Mackage, keep their focus on body-conscious silhouettes and precise tailoring which women of all body types and ages can appreciate.

Here is Eva Mendes in Mackage’s “Elle” coat from a previous collection. She’s paired her coat with one of the hottest fall trends - over-the -knee boots - a statement bag & chic sunglasses for effortless and elegant style.mackeva

My personal favorite in Mackage’s latest collection is the Zahara coat in Pewter. Bell sleeves, leather details and a hood make the perfect combination for me!

The Fast and The Fabulous Wear Sunglasses

Saturday, October 24th, 2009
Authored by: Lauren Messiah

I finally figured it out — sunglasses are the key to being fabulous when you are feeling less than fabulous. No seriously. I know I should have figured this out a long time ago but better late than never, right? When you put on sunglasses you automatically look put together, look a little cooler, and you can totally bypass putting on makeup. It’s genius, really.

There is one small problem though, nighttime. How I wish I were one of those cool people that could wear my sunglasses at night but I can’t. I simply can’t see when I do that and I feel, well, like a giant tool. The solution is simple. The solution is this great top by Lauren Moshi.

moshi-glasses

Sure it won’t cover up your face like real sunglasses, and sure you have to put on make up but you will still look darn cool.
