Hi! I’m Grechen, from Grechen’s Closet, one of the very first online shopping blogs, and spinoffs - grechenscodes.com: coupon codes for contemporary women’s shopping online, green grechen: eco-friendly fashion and shopping online, and free!grechen: contests & giveaways for women who love fashion and shopping.
One of my main passions at the moment is discovering and sharing eco-friendly designers & boutiques at green grechen, and I am pleased to be involved with Manhattanite and spotlight some of their eco-friendly designers!
Whether or not you’re interested in greening up your wardrobe, summer is a great time to try bamboo clothing if you haven’t already. Bamboo, while somewhat controversial as an eco-friendly fabric, makes fabulous warm-weather wear because it’s breathable, and wicks away moisture better than cotton. This isn’t some wild claim put forward by bamboo growers, it’s totally true! I personally have a wonderful bamboo tank that I wear all summer long and definitely feel like it keeps me cooler than cotton. Bamboo also drapes perfectly because it’s a little heavier than cotton - which makes it an ideal fabric for dresses.
There are some great designers out there who work in bamboo, Toggery is one of my favorites, as is Doie and Ecoganik. Bamboosa makes great basics and children’s items using organically grown bamboo, and Lizzie Parker makes really great cardigans, perfect for throwing on over sundresses!
Two of my favorite pieces this season are by Ecoganik and Doie:
I’d wear these all summer long with organic cotton leggings, jeans, tucked into cute a-line skirts…pretty much everything! Seriously, I couldn’t live with out my bamboo tops in the summer, and neither should you - definitely give it a try, you won’t be sorry.
