Summer Office Chic

It’s summer! Ditch the suit, the wool pants, the trench and try my go-to item for summer office chic: the dress.  This simple (and genius) garment will take you from work to happy hour and go with anything from flip flops to sky high heels.  If you work at in a conservative setting, simply toss a basic cardigan over or a camisole under a flirty frock.  And if you’re lucky enough to work somewhere more casual all you need is a little extra accessory to take your dress to the next level.  The only rules to follow?  Unless you work in fashion or media, steer clear of anything too puffy, too short, too tight, or too revealing.

Below, I picked my favorite office-appropriate (and party ready) from Shop Manhattanite.

Cecilia De Bucourt Cleo Dress with Stud Belt in White - Love the white for the summer and viscose is a lightweight, hot weather friendly fabric.  The shape works for all but the most conservative offices and the built in stud belt with matching straps adds a bit of punk rock.

Lauren Conrad Brittney Dress in Sugar Plum and Black - This strapless frock really goes from day to evening- all you need is your favorite cardigan!  Try belting over the cardigan for a more unique office look and simply take it off as you head for the bar.

Voom Vivian Blouse Dress in Black - This piece is very sexy secretary.  It’s classic in black and white with a flirty blouse and high waisted pencil skirt.  You can sex it up quite a bit with a pair of ultra high patent pumps.

Voom Neema Dress in Black - I love the dress because of the unexpected pattern on the skirt and the empire waist flatters almost all figures.

An Introduction to Ashe Mischief

Hello, my cher! A big welcome all around–to you, and to me, and to one of my new blogging homes here at Manhattanite!

Introducing myself always feels kind of awkward– I’m never quite sure what to say. I write Dramatis Personae, a fashion & style blog focusing on our mischievous personae. I believe that we all are multi-faceted & complex creatures, and our styles and lifestyles reflect that. I treat my own life & fashion stylings as a theatrical production– there are times when I’m backstage, quiet, calm, and working to produce something. Then there are days when I am on stage, a glittery, made-up mythological creature of a girl.  It’s important to me to indulge and fulfill both sides of that woman, to create a better and more fulfilled self.

What I love about working with the Manhattanite blog and store is the way the the site incorporates all aspects of a woman’s life. From our pets or kids, down to our fingers & toes, I love to celebrate ways to love ourselves. On a personal level, from brands like Betsey Johnson, to Tolani, to Oh Deer! I feel like the products really cover my many aspects & personae.

I’m elated to join the wonderful group of bloggers that you’re going to see here, and hope that you all enjoy reading the Shop Manhattanite blog as much as I know I’ll enjoy writing for it!

xoxo,
Ashe

Allow me to reintroduce myself … my name is HOV! No, just kidding. I have had Jay Z songs stuck in my head all day, please forgive me.

My name is actually Lauren Messiah, but most of you probably know me as FashionKitty. You may have visited my blog, AskFashionKitty where I have been dishing out fashion advice since 2004. Or perhaps you have seen me on the blog formerly known as StyleDash, trash talking celebrities bad fashion choices. Or maybe you’ve seen one of my thousands of fashion recommendations on ThisNext.

FashionKitty and a few of her favorite things!

FashionKitty and a few of her favorite things!

What I am trying to say is, I get around — The web that is, sharing my fashion knowledge with anyone who will listen. In an attempt to spread more fashion joy, I am here blogging for Manhattanite.

I am not even one blog post in and I am already finding that the hardest part about blogging for an online boutique is wanting everything! With that being said, let’s wrap this fist post up with a few of my favorite things.

  • CC Skye Medium Skye Bag in Black- This bag falls into my ‘tough-girl-chic’ fashion genre, which is currently my favorite fashion genre. Its black, its slouchy, its perfect.
  • Taco Costume- I don’t have a dog (yet) but I want a dog (really bad) and no, it’s not just because this taco costume is so cute. I do, however, encourage all dog owners to consider putting their pooch in this costume.

Introducing Carolyn from The Daily Obsession

Hi everyone, welcome to June! Carolyn here from The Daily Obsession and you’ll know if you read my site that I really love fashion. For me, May was very  Confessions of a Shopaholic style where I contemplated selling my old Louboutins in order to fund two new pairs and eBaying my Prada purse since I accidentally purchased a Tod’s overnight bag from a sale I wasn’t even supposed to go to.

But June..June is a new month with a fresh budget, but since I overdid it a little last month, I went deal hunting on Manhattanite to find pieces for my summer wardrobe.  I thought I’d be stuck to sorting through winter coats in the sale section, but I actually scored some really great, warm weather finds at prices that didn’t leave me feeling like I needed to sell half my closet to pay for it.  Let me know what you think about my picks below!

Gypsy 05 Organic Maxi Dress in Canteloupe

Maxi dresses are still hot this summer and I love this easy, flattering shape and sunny color.  Plus it’s only $70 and made from 100% organic cotton.

Sweetees Cinnamon Tube Dress

This dress is so cute for going out on a summer evening, weekend brunch or even the office when paired with a cotton blazer. I love the longer length which makes it a little bit dressier.  It’s incredibly versatile and well priced at only $115.50.

Harkham Jersey Dress

For a sexy night out, I love this lightweight LBD by Harkham which comes with an authentic removable leather belt. Priced at only $131, that’s cheaper than just buying a belt at a lot of other places!

Lauren Conrad Julie Swiss Dot Jumper

I’m actually dying for a cute little jumper but it’s hard to find one that won’t have those not in the fashion-know go, “what are you wearing?” But this black number from Lauren Conrad is so cute no one would question your outfit! Plus, it’s 50% off, just in time for the summer!

Sweetees Adisa Dress

This Sweetees dress is appropraite for a beach wedding to a city dinner and anything in between. Wear it with dangly earrings or a long necklace for something really feminine and sophisticated or belt it with one of the 2 removable belts from above picks for a whole new look.  You really can’t go wrong because it’s from my favorite section- the 70% off rack and clocks in at only $43.

Happy shopping!
