Spring forward to a brighter season with the latest denim additions to Manhattanite. Choose from a muted eggplant to vibrant bursts of blues and reds this Spring/Summer 2012 as it promises to be a kaleidoscopic adventure for those who seek it.
The signature Siwy styles, Hannah and Camilla have been updated with trendy pops of colors. Those who are familiar with this brand should have no trouble at all finding a perfect shade. For I, myself have fallen for the Hannah in “Honeymoon”, a luxurious and playful take on a neutral hue.
Feeling a bit quirkier than usual? Then Blank denim’s tangerine spray-on skinnies might just be the winner. The skin tight fit comes with a good amount of stretch, encouraging easy movements to keep the wearer comfortable and positive as the color represents.
There’s a subtle option for those who are not sure if they can handle all the attention in such sprightly wear. M2F Denim’s aesthetically vintage jeans may just be your cup of tea. Their stonewashed denim come in inky purples, traditional blues and lusterless red. It could be your little way of taking part in this season’s positive take with color.

The latest additions to the Manhattanite shop are flowered with hints of bohemian influences. From Wildfox’s screen printed shirts featuring feather graphics to J.J. Winters easy-to-wear suede fringed bags, there is no excuse not to adopt a liberating attitude to dressing right now.
Not only is the J.J. WInters suede fringe bag a strong piece towards bohemian style, it can easily be adapted for a country and western look. There is a perfect day-time everyday version in taupe and also a mini version available in both taupe and navy, which I find suitable for both day and night. The best part is, both styles are perfectly priced so you won’t feel the pinch while having just saved yourself from a exhausting hunt for the perfect simple suede fringed bag.
Whilst the light blue hues of Siwy denim’s latest offerings in the hannah style are easily the first pieces to go to, especially with dreamy wash names like “fall in love” and “first love” to set the mood; I had felt that the boot-cut style “Harley” would add a more natural aura around the look. The best thing is, most of the Harley washes are now on sale and I have found myself inclining towards the light washes “Freedom” and “Lilt”.
Picture Alessandro Ambroiso in the Wildfox Light Feather Boy Tank in Heathe Gray, J.J. Winters Suede Fringed Bag in Taupe and Siwy Harley Jeans in Lilt with a pair of plain Havaianas for the perfect example of this carefree look that I have in mind right now. Now pick your bohemian-flavoured piece and live free today!

Keep it light and pink!
One of the outstanding key pieces this season is Isabel Marant’s pink shorts as seen on their Spring/Summer 2011 show. It has since spawned a slew of copies from other brands and amongst which is Siwy’s gorgeous Siwy Camilla shorts in Desert Rose.
The dreamy aesthetic of the dusty pink wash blends well into a holiday at your favorite beach resort destination if you can get away somewhere this summer. A white knit sweater or a white loose tank like the Wildfox dreamweaver tank (as seen above) seem to be the ideal escorting pieces to a well-dressed summer beach day or night out.
Not going anywhere for the summer like me? I am considering getting the hannah version of the desert rose wash instead which I can quite happily marry with my daily work and weekend outfits. Personally, I am a little bored of the usual blues, blacks and greys that you get with regular jean washes anyway and have never been a fan of brightly coloured denim. I see this dusty pink wash as a natural trangression from my favorite and overworn Siwy Hannahs in One Love.
So whether or not you’re going to be basking under the sun or sitting under the lights of your office, a little touch of pink is sure to lift your spirits up a little and make this summer a bit sweeter than usual.

My search for a reliable source of vintage rock and roll t-shirts can finally come to an end. Strategically placed rips? Check. Well-stretched necklines which look like the washing machine has taken its toll on it? Check. An intangible relaxed look overall? Check. Doesn’t cost me over $100 just because it’s vintage or looks vintage enough? Check. Uh huh - Chaser, you have got it right. The invitingly comfortable, thin and soft fabric of their shirts are great for slouching around the house in to keeping it cool with a statement jacket like Nicole Richie (see above). This is one must-have for all to indulge in, all at a reasonably price of about $50 per piece.
All Chaser pieces on Manhattanite can be found here.

Summer may be a little over a season away but who is to say you cannot inject a bit of its sparkle into your current season palette? My appetite for silver is an all year round affair and these pieces I currently love would easily blend into most occasions.
The Chrissy L Entrapment necklace (as seen on beach model) would sit happy over a knitted dress for the current season but doubles as a glamorous choice over swimwear at the beach. I personally love it over a one-shouldered dress worn together with Marcia Moran’s Titanium Triple Drop Tribal earrings for an equally dramatic look. Similarly, it is a great classic piece that will marry any evening dress.
For everyday wear, the Adina Small Horseshoe necklace would be the minimalist’s idea of a little daily boost, both in style and in luck. It is the best piece for fuss-free accessorizing, especially if you prefer cool over glamour.

There is something quite effortlessly sultry about the combat trouser (cargo pants), a 90’s trend that girl group All Saints were famous for. It was refreshingly sexy at that time because the girls looked good laid-back and comfortable as compared to the Spice Girls who were known for their over-the-top glamour outfits. The combat style on women catered to a different set of males who thought of sexiness as something effortless and that could be why the style was relatively prevalent for the longest time.
Last year, a few premium denim companies tried to revive the trend back and it got the seal of approval from some commonly style-stalked hollywood celebrities like Ashley Tisdale, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, etc. With 90’s trends coming on strong at the moment, this is one style to definitely consider loving again. After all, who would deny comfort and cool, especially now that it’s back in everyone’s favourite skinny leg style?
Even if you do not fancy the big pockets on the combat trousers, you can easily cheat by getting jeans in an earthy tone like the Siwy Hannah Slim Crop in Rebellion, a personal favourite of mine. I would pair with a slinky romantic top and heels or even combat boots if I wanted to take the look to the next level.
What could be a better way to start the new year with a new effortlessly sexy look? Check out for the following combat styles by Siwy on Manhattanite!
1. Siwy Rose Drainpipe jeans in Moss
2. Siwy Marielle Chino Pants in Blacksand or Moss
3. Siwy Valentine Cargo Pants in Blacksand or Moss

Definitely a wardrobe essential, plaid shirts are a common interest between celebrities and are constantly on the celebrity style radar. Channel a grunge look with a pair of equally classic doc martens or smarten them up with well-fitting jeans and a pair of comfortable wedge heels. Whichever way you choose to wear it, it is dead easy to look comfortable and cool at the same time.
Rails offer a variety of plaid styles and cuts so it’s safe to say there is enough plaid to go around with! I especially love the short sleeved cropped style which will look adorable with a flirty above-the-knee skirt and a pair of lace-up wedge boots. It also comes in navy blue!
If it’s chilly where you are now, the long sleeved button-down version also make a great layering piece with a warm coat and tough looking boots. The best bit however about these shirts are that they are all just under $100, of good quality and have a narrow cut. It just doesn’t get any better than this!

I’ve been browsing outerwear as fall flurries into our fair city.

Voom - Eva Coat, on sale at Manhattanites
While my newest acquisition is this cute swingy, 60’s-esque coat by Voom, I can’t help but drool over Mackage’s prim-but-utilitarian, ultra-tailored, super-luxe coats. It’s neo-victorian meets urban dwellers and it somehow seems so right for the season - whether the look is ultra ladylike, or military-inspired.

Mackage- Quinn Coat
Ladylike bell sleeves and the extra length in the back offset the oversized collar and pockets. The look is militant, but soft.

Mackage - Gia Coat
With a nipped in waist, cowl neck and large buttons, this coat has a futuristic ladies-in-menswear feel. I see oxfords and slim suit pants; silk and leather gloves.
This next coat is my favorite from the group…

Mackage - Trixie Coat
Victorian puffed sleeves in a slim cut and a center yoke give this coat a vintage feel in a streamlined modern way. It says “high-street urban gamin” - ultra tailored, without being overly fussy.
And as fall rolls it’s way into winter, ladies will be wearing these in style. The looks are modern, but not overly forward - they are looks that will last!

The Siwy jeans that I spoke of in my last post arrived recently and it didn’t take long for me to start wearing them. The sizing and the fit is so reliable; I have gotten so used to their jeans that I don’t need to worry if it may or may not fit when it arrives.
I paired them with a lace bodysuit from Topshop and my favourite cropped jacket by Adam. However, I’d imagine it would be much colder where you are right now so I strongly suggest a leather bomber jacket to go with these sleek grey jeans.
